Reaching New Heights with Eric Alexander

I met Eric Alexander tonight at a men's dinner. I was invited by a good friend whom I've known for several years through church and whom I highly respect to a Master's Men (http://www.mastersmen.com/) event. The event was designed to reach out to men to share the gospel of Christ through sports and business.

Before I arrived, I had no idea who Eric Alexander was, his accomplishments, etc. I simply was wanting to spend some time with some good christian guys and catch up with some old friends over a good meal. But it was much more than that!

It was a great meal (props to the Frisco County Club) complete with red meat - a staple for any "men's dinner" - not to mention the great fellowship with christian men. But the evening only started there.

Eric Alexander began to speak about his climbing adventures and accomplishments in destinations around the world such as climbing peaks in 6 continents and being part of the Everest team to set 5 world records (www.highersummits.com/about/awards). He also founded Adventures Beyond Limits - a non-profit organization designed to take disabled teens (primarily the blind) to new physical heights. Oh, and did I mention...he combines all of these. (!!!)

Eric was very humble in his speech giving God glory for his accomplishments and challenges. He described moments during climbs that would leave any man or woman shaking in fear like falling 150 feet or being stranded on the side a cliff for 6 days waiting for a storm to pass. He emphasized prayer, teamwork, loyalty, and not giving in to foolish fears.

It was a unique opportunity tonight to meet someone who not only attempted to climb to the top of the world, but has such a servants' heart, that he decided to share those attempts with those who wouldn't necessarily have that opportunity and giving all the glory to God.

Here are a couple great sites to learn more about Eric Alexander, his faith, and his adventures.
